Denise Bad Tape 2: more Lo-Fi and now with side-chain! - gearnews.com

Denise Bad Tape 2 has a sequel’s best qualities – more of the same, but bigger and better. It has even more tape and magnetophon emulations to make stuff sound dodgy on purpose. There is also a new side-chain mode. Everything from Bad Tape 1 is still intact, because it was that good. Enjoy!

When Bad Tape came out three years ago, the lo-fi craze was peaking and is still going strong. Even today, you can’t escape an overflow of cassette emulations and sound manglers. That’s just the contradictory human nature, isn’t it? We got these super hi-res converters and advanced algorithms and we use them to sound bad, but better!

Denise has a strong understanding of what makes a plug-in cutting-edge and Bad Tape is still a best-seller. It’s well-worth a sequel which brings us to version 2. Previously, there were 6 parameters to dial in different crackles and artifacts. There are 5 more now for a total of 11. Among them are Shake, which creates random and very audible vibrato, and Doubler which simulates a pair of out-of-sync tape machines.

In addition, the Detune parameter has been changed. Clicking on the parameter still creates a tape stop effect, but now you can set adjust speed of the stop and the strength of the added vibrato.

The Magnet effect simulates a tape that’s slowly demagnetizing, resulting in random dropouts and noises. You can also use the Res module to generate completely new sounds from the source material using 6 resonators. A Phaser is also included. Finally, almost all parameters can be modulated via side-chain.

Denise also used the push-pull graph as a display in Bad Tape 2, similar to the rest of its plug-ins such as Perfect Plate or Dragon Fire. Furthermore, the plug-in now supports up to 4x oversampling.

Denise Bad Tape 2 is on sale for an introductory price of EUR 47, down from EUR 71. If you already own the first version, the update costs EUR 34.5. You can buy the plug-in from our affiliate partner Plugin Boutique *:
