The South Korean flautist Yubeen Kim was predictably pronounced winner of this year’s ARD contest in Munich.
Yubeen, 25, is principal flute of the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra and a growing magnet in the German capital.
The Italian is clearly a superior flutist.
Too bad you weren’t judging; guess you feel the panel missed the mark.
He blew the solo flute on John Williams’ best-selling “The Berlin Concert” album.

Wow, you’re right, that’s Yubeen! (I had to check the video ;)!) Here he is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48npFvJSnfA
Beautiful performance as guest principal flute of Berlin Phil, playing the iconic Princess Leia’s Theme flute solo from Star Wars. Magnificent!
Outstanding flutist, already principal in the Konzerthaus in Berlin and subbing with the Phil. Listen to his gorgeous solo on the DG John Williams concert. He was probably in the running for the big job but it went to another clear competition winner, Sebastian Jacot. Jacot is an even more impressive flutist than Kim, if that’s possible. The Italian flutist, Kobe competition winner, is also very fine. But Kim and Jacot are already superstar flutists.
