The new Tribit XSound Mega is rated for water resistance at IPX7, making it ideal for poolside ... [+] parties or dancing in the rain.

Spring has sprung here in the northern hemisphere and warmer days can’t be too far off. It feels as though it’s been a long and hard winter. However, soon we should be enjoying trips to the beach or having barbecues with our friends and neighbors.

It looks as if 2022 will also see a resurgence of boombox-style wireless speakers. My hunch is that audio companies have figured that many of us are ready to let off a bit of steam with our family and friends after two years of harsh lockdowns and social distancing. We want to party!

This new wireless speaker from Tribit is specifically designed with parties in mind and made for people who like their bass loud and proud. A lot of boombox speakers are big and bulky to achieve a fat bass, but the Tribit XSound Mega is superbly compact weighing in at just a tad over 1kg.

The XSound Mega from Tribit weighs a smidgen over 1kg and comes with its own detachable scratch for ... [+] taking the wireless speaker on the move.

Tribit is probably best-known for producing some excellent true wireless earbuds that are packed with features and sell for a reasonable price. The company’s latest product is the new Tribit XSound Mega, a durable and water-resistant speaker that can play for up to 20 hours on a single charge.

This compact wireless speaker comes with a detachable shoulder strap for carrying it to the beach and back. It also has colored LEDs behind the speaker grille that can flash in time to the music. Tribit claims the XSound Mega is one of its most innovative products to date.

The Tribit XSound Mega is rated at a healthy 30W and uses high-density speaker magnets to deliver punchy bass, making it ideal for pool parties or barbecues. There are three audio modes built into the speaker. For party animals, there’s an Xbass setting, while for general music listening there’s a music mode. For those who like listening to podcasts and the spoken word, there’s an Audiobook mode.

Behind the speaker grille of the Tribit XSound Mega is a strip of RGB LEDs that can change color and ... [+] pulsate in time to the music playing on the speaker.

At the heart of the XSound Mega is a chipset supporting Bluetooth 5.0 and the basic SBC audio codec. The speaker can remember up to eight Bluetooth devices and even includes a microphone so that it can be used as a speakerphone or for video meetings.

The Tribit XSound Mega speaker has an impressive battery capacity thanks to a couple of 3.65V 4,000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion cells that can play for up to 20 hours. Meanwhile, the speaker’s casing is rated at IPX7 for water resistance, making it ideal for poolside use where it’s likely to receive the occasional soaking. The batteries take about 3.5 hours to fully charge, with sufficient stamina to outlast the most raucous of pool parties, outdoor gatherings, country hikes or all-day events.

Behind the XSound Mega’s speaker grille, there is a strip of RGB LEDs that are perfect for creating a party vibe. The LEDs can be turned off if flashing, colored lights aren’t required. The XSound Mega also has two external charging ports for topping up a couple of smartphones.

At the rear of the Tribit XSound Mega there's a waterproof cover that opens to reveal to USB ... [+] charging ports and an analog input for a 3.5mm stereo jackplug.

Across the top of the XSound Mega’s top is a strip of waterproof buttons for powering the speaker, adjusting volume, pairing with Bluetooth devices and for adjusting the LED lighting and audio modes.

The sound produced by this compact but solid wireless speaker is impressive. It’s certainly got plenty of bass and forward midrange that can cope with plenty of volume without distorting. For those who want a big party, it’s even possible to link up to 100 XSound Mega speakers for a large rave.

Verdict: The Tribit XSound Mega is a capable wireless speaker with good levels of water resistance, a good tonal quality and those flashing LEDs if that’s what you want. It offers quite a lot for the money and represents good value for money. If you want a wireless speaker for parties and smaller gatherings that offers a decent quality of sound, the Tribit XSound Mega is well worth a listen.
